Police Department Ride-Along

I went on another police ride-along, and was fortunate to ride with Officer Kevin Janse for several hours. We visited dilapidated houses in North Park/Love Field that were serving as homeless encampments.

One of the things that really troubled me was the lack of a screen or barrier in the police car between our police officers in the front and the criminals they arrest in the back. We must give our police the equipment they need to be safe and get the job done.

Another problem was that we spent much of our time call-chasing – going from one police call to the next – rather than beat policing. We will have to continue to hire more officers if we want our Police Department to successfully transition to beat policing.
